The world shipbuilding industry is forecast to spend $9.2 billion on marine propulsion systems in 2006 and this is set to rise through to 2008. From 2009-10 the recommencement is expected of more 'normal' activity levels, as the new tonnage filters through and is absorbed by the market. Over the period 2006 to 2010, $47.2 billion is likely to be spent compared with $26.9 billion over the previous five year period - an increase of 76%. These are amongst the findings of the latest edition of The World Marine Propulsion Report 2006-2010, published today by analysts Douglas-Westwood using vessel data from Lloyd's Register - Fairplay.
