The Caspian Sea is a closed basin divided into national sectors of five
neighboring countries: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan
with significant hydrocarbon resources, currently estimated at 125 billion
barrels (approximately 3.8 % - 4.4 % of the world's total hydrocarbon
resources). The Caspian Sea attracts attention of many countries whose oil and
gas companies have been vying for a share in Caspian offshore production
projects, on stream and in perspective. Given today's high oil prices and
growing energy demand, development of the potentially significant resources of
the Caspian Sea could be a factor in dramatic realignment of forces on the
world oil and gas markets, and offer great profit-generating potential. This is
why unlocking these enormous resources is the highest priority for the Caspian
nations, and this area piques keen interest of hydrocarbon-exporting nations.
THE FUTURE OF CASPIAN PETROLEUM OFFSHORE INDUSTRY contains data that will help
potential investors gain a better understanding of the operating environment in
this region, including the climate, hydrocarbon potential, legal base, Caspian
nations' service market capacity, export opportunities, and routes for delivery
of Caspian crude to world markets.
