Kazakhstan reports oil spill from pipeline accident
08-07-04 Some 250,000-300,000 thousand tons of oil have been spilt in Manghistau province as a result of a pipeline accident, the Agency for Emergency Response (AER) of Kazakhstan has said.
The accident occurred at the oil pipeline Uzen-Atyrau-Samara at Sai-Utes -- Beineu section on July 6.
According to the AER, welding works have been currently carried out between the pipe couplings at the location of the oil spillage, 1,200 tons of oil slime have been carried away to the territory of Beineu oil refinery. The oil spillage location is being dammed. Protective checkpoints have been organised around the spillage perimeter.
More than 200 workers from the Western branch of KazTransOil and 83 special equipment units are operating at the accident location.
