Kazakh president invites foreigners to invest in processing industries
22-06-05 President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has called on foreign investors to focus on the processing industries with big export potential.
The share of mining industries continues to prevail in the investment portfolios of foreign investors working in the region though many industries in the Kazakh economy have greater export potential than the raw materials industries, he told the Council of Foreign Investors in Karaganda.
Production of construction materials is one of the fastest growing industries and has huge growth potential, Nazarbayev said. Profit on investment in the petrochemical industry is potentially five to six times higher than in the oil and gas industry, he said.
There is also good growth potential in the production of machinery and equipment for the oil and gas sector, he said.
Nazarbayev asked the big companies in the Council of Foreign Investors to increase work, primarily in these areas.
"In order to develop the petrochemical industry we must set up a
petrochemical technology park in Atyrau using existing enterprises," he said. He said in order to successfully create a petrochemical cluster in the country, long-term shipments of enough natural gas must be secured for the production of polymer products.
