Albania announces no tolerance for non-payment of power bills

16-08-02 Albania's minister of industry and energy, Viktor Doda, convened leaders from KESh (Albanian Electric Corporation), Directorate of Distribution of Energy and Electric Police at a meeting on 16 August and warned that the ones who will not complete tasks should be removed from office.

Official sources from this ministry told that Minister Doda declared that "no toleration will be offered to no consumer, either a budgetary or a non-budgetary employed one, in the moment that he does not pay the energy bill".
"KESh deficit caused by non-liquidation of bills mounts to $ 87 mm for 2002. A new heat power station could be constructed with this sum or energy could be bought without needing to ask for money from the state budget," Minister Doda highlighted. According to him, energy is a good and therefore it should be bought.

Minister Doda paid a special attention to the bill payment in the touring zones, where abuses with electric power are very frequent. He warned KESh leaders in districts that ifthere is non-payment of power bills as far as end of September, they will be discharged.
Minister Doda was clear that "tolerance will be at a zero level for all the ones that will not perform their job properly and for the ones that abuse with office".
