Norway sees mature fields as unexploited resources
02-09-08 Mature oil fields may have great potentials. If the extraction degree of all Norwegian oil fields increased with 1 %, the value would increase with several hundred billion kroner.
The Norwegian Petroleum Society conference "Drill and Well Technology" focuses on these unexploited resources.
Talisman was one of the companies that participated at the Kristiansand Conference of Drill and Well Technology on 15th to 17th September. Talisman newly received the IOR price (improved oil recovery), for reopening the Yme field in 2009. The IOR prize is the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate's recognition of licences, companies, projects or individuals that have created added value on the Norwegian continental shelf through innovative action and plans related to improved oil recovery.
"There will also be other success stories," says Rune Alteras, head of the conference committee.
This year the committee decided to have an extra focus on minor, unexploited resources. It is ten years since the last
major oil discovery in Norway, and there is a strong focus on increased extraction in existing fields.
"In this context The Norwegian oil industry are about to change considerable. More operators and contractors take part, witch challenge both the authorities and the industry as regards competence, organization, working process and contract forms," Alteras says.
