World Bank estimates Mexico's need for investment in gas industry
10-04-02 Mexico will require $ 250 bn to explore and produce natural gas, as well as implementing reforms to open the sector and restrict Petroleos de Mexico's role in natural gas transportation, reported Susan Goldmark, president of the energy division of the World Bank.
The World Bank representative said that in the face of a demand that rises 8.1 % annually and supply which grows just 6.3 % per year, it will be necessary to boost private investments with resources from the public sector.
"Natural gas is a very important resource in Mexico and its role will increase in the future. There is a need for more reforms to open the sector up and make it more competitive," Goldmark said.
