Mexico-Guatemala transmission line to be finished by end 2003

23-08-02 The construction of a 98 km, 400 kV power transmission interconnection between Mexico and Guatemala will be finished in December 2003, according to the terms of an agreement between authorities from the two countries.
The line is part of the Plan Panama regional integration project.

Mexico's state power company CFE will build an $ 11.3 mm, 28 km stretch from Tapachula in Chiapas state to the border, from where the line will continue 70 km at a cost of $ 33 mm.
CFE director Alfredo Elias Ayaub and Guatemala's energy minister Raul Archila agreed that the line could be extended further in the future to other Central American countries, the CFE said.
