Colombia to remain self-sufficient through at least 2015
06-02-08 Colombia will remain self-sufficient in oil through at least 2015 because of new discoveries made in 2007, mining and energy minister Hernan Martinez Torres said at an oil and gas investment conference in Cartagena.
Last year, 70 exploratory wells were drilled in the country and 27 became producers. Nearly 22,000bpd of additional production came online in the year. A total of 85 exploratory wells will be drilled in 2008.
"With the new discoveries in 2007, our self-sufficiency has been extended from 2009-2015, but with the big discoveries I know we'll find, we'll keep extending our self-sufficiency further and further into the future," Martinez said.
Colombia's total oil production surpassed 558,000 bpd in December 2007, he added.
