Oman scouts for direct buyers of LNG

18-08-00 The proposed Oman-India gas pipeline project having fallen through, the Gulf country is now scouting for direct buyers of LNG in the Western Gujarat State.
Reliance, Petronet, Shell Hazira and Metropolitan Gas of Enron are setting up massive LNG projects in the State and Oman LNG sees a big potential for direct sales to them.
A senior official of Oman LNG said that discussions have been held with the four companies and they were still at a preliminary stage.
Oman LNG expects to export 3 mm tpy of LNG and its business prospects have improved with the Gujarat's energy Minister confirming that his Government was looking at implementing a gas grid project using Oman LNG as feedstock.
The State has identified LNG as major fuel for industrial development and hopes to supply the consumers by March 2003.
