Turkmenistan starts export of electric power to Iran

22-08-02 New direction for export of the Turkmen electric power was opened. According to the information received from the energy and industry ministry of Turkmenistan electricity transmission from Turkmenistan to Iran started on August 22.
The volumes of electric power to the neighbouring country will make 50 MW daily with 220 V. The length of the electric power transmission line is 270 km. Contract of supply of electric power to Iran was signed between the Kuvvat corporation of the Turkmen Ministry of energy and industry and state energy company of Iran. The sum of the contract is about $ 659,000, the volumes of supply prevails 27 mm kWh.

Accord on supply of the Turkmen electric energy to Iran was reached between the presidents of the both states Saparmurat Niyazov and Mohammad Khatami in April of 2002 in Ashgabat, during the Official visit of the Iran president to Turkmenistan.
The Ministry also informed about the perspectives for using electric power system of Iran for supply of the Turkmen gas to Turkey. Presently, along with Iran Turkmenistan supplies with electric power its southern neighbour Afghanistan as well.
