14-10-02 The Iranian government approved the draft of the bill for targeted energy subsidies, presented by the Management and Planning Organization (MPO). According to MPO's Managing Director, Mohammad Satarifar, the bill plans to increase the price of fuel to its real value. Half of the additional amount generated, he said, will be used to implement a targeted energy subsidy plan.

Mr Satarifar added that the funds reserved for the energy subsidy plan shall be distributed to the Ministry of Social Welfare. Presently the Parliament is reviewing the bill on establishment of a Social Welfare Ministry.
The Ministry will be created through the merger of various ministerial units related to insurance activities and the Social Security Organization.
