Turkmen minister stresses importance of gas pipeline with Iran
26-10-06 Turkmen Minister of Oil and Gas and Mineral Resources Gurbanmurat Atayev referred to the establishment of Iran-Turkmenistan gas pipeline as one of his country's major achievements following its independence.
Addressing the session of the Turkmen parliament, he said that up to 8 bn cm of gas is annually exported to Iran via the pipeline. Gas exports will be increased to 14 bn cm in the future, he added.
Turkmen gas is exported to Iran via the 200-km Korpedzhe-Kord Kuy pipeline, which became operational in 1997.
The pipeline initially had the capacity to export some 8 bn cm of gas to Iran. This amount has been increased to 12 bn after the completion of a development project on the pipeline last year.
