Yemen to "Buy British" in award of Aden refinery rehabilitation

Dec. 1, 1997 Minister for Trade, Lord Clinton-Davis, has secured confirmation that Tarmac Construction has been awarded the exclusive mandate for the rehabilitation of the Aden Refinery.
Following a recent visit to Yemen Lord Clinton-Davis said: "The visit to Yemen was extremely successful. The Tarmac deal for the Aden Refinery will be the largest civil engineering/construction contract won by a British company in the Gulf. This contract was fought hard for by the " British Team" involving Tarmac, the Prime Minister, the DTI and the British Embassy in Sana. We can all share Tarmac's success.
"The future of British trade with Yemen is looking very positive. The impetus for Tarmac has come from the highest levels, the Government of Yemen have expressed their preference to buy British. We look forward to increased bilateral trade and investment in the future."
During his visit Lord Clinton-Davis had a long meeting with the President of Yemen - Ali Abdullah Saleh, as well as several Yemeni Ministers including the Ministers of Health, Industry, Oil, Trade & Supply, Labour and Planning.
