Jordan to provide electricity to Lebanon
28-08-08 Jordan has expressed readiness to provide Lebanon with 50-70 MW of electricity a day to help the country meet a drastic shortfall.
Jordan said it has offered to sell power-starved Lebanon electricity at special prices until the end of 2009.
Jordan's energy minister Khaldoun Qteishat made the announcement at a meeting with his Egyptian, Syrian and Lebanese counterparts in Amman. Qteishat said that the kingdom can supply electricity either through the joint electric grid or by generating and selling electricity to Lebanon, or by both.
Lebanon has been suffering from a shortage of electricity and the situation has been exacerbated by high fuel costs.
