Gas increasingly more popular
28-10-01 The reason for energy companies' heightened interest in natural gas is due to its growing popularity with electric companies, who are increasing their usage because natural gas is known for its clean, efficient burning -- and its price is frequently better than other derivatives of crude oil. For consumers, natural gas is usually cheaper for heating and cooking.
The most telling statistic for Florida is this:
In 2000, natural gas generated 17.6 % of the electricity in the peninsula, according to figures supplied by the Florida Public Service Commission. By 2010, it will be generating 43.9 %.
