Russia insists on major share in gas deliveries to US
19-09-03 Russia is set to insist on a major share in natural gas deliveries to the United States, Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov said. He held talks with his American counterpart, Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham.
The prospect for an increase in Russia's liquefied gas supplies to the US and the latter's ability to receive them dominated the agenda of talks, according to Mr Yusufov.
Russia alone is not able to meet the US market's gas demand, admitted the minister. "We will seek a major role, but the project to deliver gas to the US will most likely involve other world companies as well," the minister said.
There are two countries that are now negotiating new oil and gas deals, said Mr Yusufov. He said the talks were under way. The results of the talks will be made public after an upcoming Russian-US summit, according to the energy minister.
