Saskatchewan Aboriginals looking to get share of gas and oil revenues
13-05-08 Saskatchewan First Nations are calling on the provincial government to give them a share of oil, gas and minerals revenues.
Speaking at a two-day conference in Saskatoon, leaders of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan say any discussion of land and resource development has to include talk of revenue sharing. Premier Brad Wall told the conference his government is committed to ensuring First Nations and Metis people have a voice in the province.
A lot of the resource development in Saskatchewan is on aboriginal traditional land. For decades, First Nations have asked for revenue sharing so their communities can get some of the money collected by the Saskatchewan government.
Aboriginal leaders hope these talks will give them what they want.
