US will set another wind power record
23-10-08 The US wind energy industry installed 1,389 MW this quarter, bringing the total to 4,204 MW.
The American Wind Energy Association is projecting it will be another record year for wind project installation. The industry is on track to surpass 2007, when 5,249 MW were installed, with a total of about 7,500 MW this year. That is enough power to provide electricity to an estimated 2.2 mm homes.
AWEA is also estimating the share of domestic wind turbines has risen from about 30 % in 2005 to 50 % currently.
Among the wind leaders in the world, Texas now generates 6 GW, placing it just below Germany, India and Spain.
