Global Pipeline Monthly Anaerobes convert hydrocarbons to natural gas

WHEN A GROUP of University of Oklahoma researchers began studying the environmental fate of spilt petroleum, a problem that has plagued the energy industry for decades, they did not expect to eventually isolate a community of microorganisms capable of converting hydrocarbons into natural gas. The researchers found that the groundbreaking process - known as anaerobic hydrocarbon metabolism - can be used to stimulate methane gas production from older, more-mature, oil reservoirs such as those in Oklahoma. The work has now led to the recognition that similar microorganisms may also be involved in problems ranging from the deterioration of fuels to the corrosion of pipelines.

Global Pipeline Monthly - sourcing vital intelligence on major pipeline projects all over the world

Oil and gas pipelines, whether within a country or crossing national borders, are not easy to construct or operate, and nor are they particularly easy to fund. These mega-projects are often among the world's most complex, and the combined weight of the engineering and political challenges that confront those seeking to create new pipelines (or extend existing ones) is almost as heavy as the legal problems associated with running them.

Global Pipeline Monthly is aimed at bringing to subscribers the inner workings of a growing number of major pipeline projects. Global Pipelines Monthly was started to respond to the need for the hands-on coverage required by both business and governmental organizations.
