Exxon Chemical and Union Carbide launch new PE technology company

Jan. 9, 1997 Union Carbide Corporation and Exxon Chemical Company have announced their senior management appointments and locations of key facilities for their planned polyethylene technology, licensing and metallocene catalyst supply joint venture. The JV is awaiting start up. The new company will be headquartered in Houston, Texas. R&D will encompass three world-class technical centres located in Bound Brook, N.J.; Baytown, Texas; and South Charleston, W.Va. The technology effort builds on the parent companies' long-standing foundation in UNIPOL gas- phase and EXXPOL metallocene catalyst PE production technologies. Principal licensing offices will be located in Danbury, Conn., and Houston, Texas, with other offices in Tokyo, Brussels, Geneva, Vienna and Cairo. Manufacturing support to licensing will be provided by several plant locations in the US Gulf Coast region. The company's first world-scale metallocene catalyst manufacturing plant is located at Mont Belvieu, Texas.
