Jiangsu produced 1.02 mmt oil in 1996

East China's Jiangsu Province produced 1.02 million tons of crude oil in 1996, an increase of 5.6 % over the previous year. Over the past few years the province, famous for its success in developing a rural industry, has invested in the building of four new oilfields, adding 310,000 tons of oil production capacity. Oilfields in the province have increased investment and applied advanced scientific and technological methods to oil prospecting. Two reserves each with 10 million tons of oil and a number of concentrated oil and gas bearing areas have been found in the province.
