Norway extends licence deadline

Jan 30, 1997 01:00 AM

Oil companies have been given an additional month -- until March 5 -- to submit applications for exploration licences for new blocks in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea, Statoil has said. Statoil said the extension was due to a delay in announcing the original deadline date in a European Union journal. Under the European Economic Area agreement, the Norwegian authorities are bound to advertise commercial projects -- such as the planned awards in the southern Barents Sea -- in official EU publications. Statoil said the delay would not affect the company's plans for the area. It would submit its application by the original deadline. It said the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy had urged interested companies to keep to the former application date. Licences are likely to be awarded in the spring.
