Ten companies bid for Barents Sea blocks

Feb. 5, 1997 The Norwegian Oil and Energy Ministry has received nine applications for licences under the Barents Sea licensing project. Ten companies have applied individually or in groups in all the areas offered in the round.The oil companies are Agip, Amerada Hess, Elf Petroleum, Enterprise Oil, Norsk Hydro, Mobil, Neste, Phillips Petroleum, Saga Petroleum and Statoil"I am very pleased with the interest which the companies have shown in the project," said Norwegian Energy Minister Ranveig Froeiland. "The Barents Sea project will provide a basis for further exploration in the area, and the positive consequences that may have for Norwegian revenues and employment in the northern region." The ministry said 45 blocks in the Southern Barents Sea were up for allocation.
