FERC approval for Gulf of Mexico Discovery pipeline

Mar. 4, 1997 The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has granted approval for the Discovery Project in the Gulf of Mexico, it was announced by Discovery project partners, MAPCO and Texaco.
Construction of the Discovery Pipeline is expected to begin in mid-March after all the FERC required conditions have been satisfied. The pipeline is a 30-inch, 150-mile natural gas pipeline which will access deepwater exploration taking place in the central Gulf of Mexico, specifically in the South Timbalier, Grand Isle, Ewing Bank, Green Canyon and Mississippi Canyon areas offshore Louisiana. The Discovery partners anticipate that the pipeline will begin accepting gas in the fourth quarter of 1997.
In addition to this pipeline, the $ 300 mm Discovery Project includes the construction of a cryogenic processing plant capable of processing 650 mmcfpd of gas and an upgrade of a natural gas liquids fractionator in Paradis, La., giving it a capacity of 42,000 bpd. Work on the gas processing plant and the fractionator upgrade has already begun.
