Mobil has announced that the UK Department of Trade and Industry has given the go-ahead for an estimated $ 1 billion development of the Shell-operated Shearwater gas and condensate field in Block 22/30b in the Central North Sea. Mobil North Sea Limited holds a 16.5 % stake in the Shearwater field.
Discovered in 1991, Shearwater is a high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) field located some 124 miles east of Aberdeen in water 295 feet deep. The field is due to come on stream in mid-2000 and is expected to be producing 410 million cfpd and 90,000 bpd of condensate by the end of that year.
Mobil's share of production will total 27,000 boepd, consisting of 68 mmcfpd of gas and 15,000 bpd of condensate. Mobil's partners in the Shearwater venture are the operator Shell UK Limited (28 %), Esso Exploration (28 %) and Arco British Limited (27.5 %).
