Statoil awards laying of Europipe II and Ekofisk Bypass to Allseas
Statoil has awarded an $121.9 mm contract to Allseas Marine Contractors to lay the Europipe II and Ekofisk Bypass gas
pipelines. Both of the North Sea pipelines will be installed during 1998 by the newly-built laybarge Solitaire,
Statoil said in a statement.
Europipe II will run from the Kaarstoe gas treatment plant North of Stavanger to Dornum on the German coast. Part of
its role will be to transport gas from the Aasgard field in the Norwegian Sea off mid-Norway to continental Europe
from 2000.
The 42-inch pipeline will run over 630 km and is due to be ready for operation in 1999. It will provide a transport
capacity of roughly 21 bn cm per year.
The Ekofisk Bypass will connect the Statpipe and Norpipe gas trunklines directly, bypassing the Ekofisk Centre where
they currently link. The installation requires for the bypass section to be tied to the two existing lines, which
will be done during a shutdown of the Ekofisk field in August, 1998.
