Apr 11, 1997 02:00 AM

Brazilian state-owned power holding Electrobras has started buying construction equipment for its $ 738 mm transmission line project that will link the country's North and South generating units. The transmission line will link Imperatriz power station in the north-eastern state of Maranhao to Samambaia station in the federal district of Brasilia, it said. The construction is expected to be completed in December 1998 and will allow Electrobras to transfer 1,000 MW. Electrobras plans to finance the project with loans from the Interamerican Development Bank and Japan's Eximbank.
