Nigeria starts using flare-gas
Nigeria will kick off a major gas pipeline project next month that will bring rich natural gas from oil fields in the
south to industrial areas in the Southwest. The project will cost $ 26 million and will be completed by July next
year. It will serve the Ikeja and Isolo industrial areas in Lagos and the Agbara industrial area in the neighbouring
Ogun state, a report said. The pipeline will be extended to other west African countries in the future, as being
planned by the governments.
Nigeria has rich natural gas resources, but a large sum of them are being flared daily at many oil fields. A senior
official of the Nigerian Gas Company said natural gas will serve as an ideal alternative source of energy to
enterprises in the said industrial areas where power supply has been poor and unreliable.
