Egypt and Libya talk joint projects

Jul 23, 1997 02:00 AM

June 24, 1997 Egypt and Libya have discussed joint oil projects and a planned oil pipeline that would transport Libyan oil to the Egyptian port city of Alexandria. Egyptian Oil Minister Hamdi el-Banbi has discussed with the head of the Libyan state oil corporation Hammouda al-Aswad a plan to refine Libyan crude in Alexandria while a Libyan firm would handle the sale and marketing of the refined products.
Al-Aswad was recently in Egypt at the head of a delegation of Libyan oil officials and technicians. Libya's minister for Arab affairs, Jomaa al- Fazzani, said joint committees with Egypt that were created earlier this month have begun to study implementation of bilateral economic accords signed recently. The seven committees are assigned to pursue projects in fields of oil and energy, trade and investment, industrial and agricultural production, infrastructure and services, security and justice, political activity, education and culture.
