June 23, 1997 The Uruguay's state owned oil company Ancap associated with the private companies Acodike and Riogas creating a joint venture to develop distribution of natural gas imported from Argentina for distribution in the countryside. The construction of a gas pipeline connecting Colom and Paysandu is underway, with secondary lines bringing gas to Colonia.
