Costs Brazil to Bolivia pipeline substantially reduced

July 3, 1997 According to Petrobras of Brazil, the cost of the gas pipeline to be set up between Brazil and Bolivia has been reduced by 22 % and 25.8 %, in the respective countries. The construction works of the Bolivian side will cost $ 89 mm, while the Brazilian side will cost $ 260 mm. The Bolivian side of the pipeline will be set up by the consortium teamed by Brown & Root Murph and Compania Petrolera Boliviana. In Brazil, the result of the tender will be announced by mid-July, 1997. The overall investments in the project are estimated at $ 2 bn. Petrobras will increase the amount of natural gas to be imported through the pipeline by 12 mm cmpd. Therefore, the total import will amount to 21 mm cmpd, and will increase the offer of the product in Brazil to 33 mm cmpd as of 1999 (50 mm cmpd by 2005).
