Bank of America opens branch in Beijing

June 23, 1997 The Bank of America has announced the opening of its Beijing branch. This is the 12th overseas-funded
bank branch in Beijing. There are 13 overseas-funded foreign banks operating in Beijing, including CitiBank and the
Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
Beijing mayor Jia Qinglin offered his congratulation to the bank's president and CEO, David Culter, at the bank's
opening ceremony and expressed the hope that the bank and Beijing will explore co-operation in traffic control,
environmental protection, and water, electricity, and gas supply.
