Two new Thailand successes in new productive area "Maliwan"
June 19, 1997 US Pogo Producing Co. reported the results of two successful exploratory wells drilled into a new area
in its Gulf of Thailand petroleum concession.
The new area, "Maliwan," is located due west of and adjacent to the company's Tantawan Field, which began producing
in February of this year, and south-west of and adjacent to the Benchamas Field which is currently under
development.
The Maliwan No. 1 encountered 112 feet of net pay and the Maliwan No. 2 discovered 280 feet of net pay sand. Pogo's
Chairman, Paul G. Van Wagenen, said, "These wells are very significant because they establish a different prospective
trend from Benchamas and Tantawan. Pogo is continuing to evaluate the results and expects to drill additional wells
this year at Maliwan simultaneous with continuing drilling at Benchamas and ongoing development operations at the
currently producing Tantawan Field."
Pogo, through its Thailand subsidiary Thaipo Ltd. is a 46.34% working interest owner in and operator of the entire
1.3 million acre license in the Gulf of Thailand.
