July 10, 1997 CMS energy's oil and gas exploration and production unit, CMS Nomeco Oil and Gas, has announced the successful completion of Campo Rosario well 13 in the colon block of the Maracaibo basin, western Venezuela. The development well was completed from 7,680-7,800 feet in the Mirador formation, for an initial production rate of 4,200 bpd. An offset well, Campo Rosario well 14, is being drilled and expected to be followed by up to 3 additional development wells.
The Colon block, in which CMS Nomeco holds a 29 % interest, is being developed in a joint venture with Tecpetrol de Venezuela SA, which operates the block, Coparex Latina de Petroleos SA, and Wascana de Venezuela SA.
The Colon block is currently producing around 9,200 bpd. Development of the Rosario field is expected to increase production to at least 15,000 bpd by early 1998.
