Chad-Cameroon oil pipeline project agreement
June 18, 1997 The parties involved in the Chad-Cameroon export pipeline project confirmed the agreement reached on
the terms of the conventions of establishment. The confirmation of the agreement was made during the 13th technical
session of the Chad-Cameroon export pipeline project held in Yaounde from June 2 to June 8, 1997. The parties
involved include the Republic of Cameroon, the Republic of Chad and the consortia of companies.
The convention of establishment will be tabled before the national assembly of Cameroon for adoption during its next
session. A public information program and the mission on the survey of the pipeline route are expected to be
completed in Cameroon by December 1997.
The Chad-Cameroon export pipeline project is initiated by the two country's governments. Oil explorations in Chad
yielded very encouraging results, the deposition is very rich, standing at 200 million tons. But oil could not be
exported without a special pipeline. The Chad-Cameroon export pipeline project is designed to solve the problem. The
pipeline will start from the south part of Chad to the south-east coast of Cameroon. The total length of the pipeline
will be 1050 kilometres.
