World Bank approves loan for energy project in Hungary
June 26, 1997 The World Bank has given approval to a $ 60 mm loan for the quick start gas turbine project in Hungary.
The project is designed to provide about 220 MW of additional generation reserve capacity to allow the country to
maintain a level of reliability and security of supply consistent with the standards of the European Union. The
project will also help Hungary enhance its role as a transit country for the electricity trade throughout
Europe.
The project consists of two complete single cycle gas turbine power plants rated at about 110 MW each, burning light
distillate fuel oil.
