New high quality oil started flowing in Ecuador
July 12, 1997 A new oil well in the north-east of Ecuador started to produce 5,000 barrels of high quality crude a
day, said a spokesmen of the state enterprise Petroproduction. The well is located in the north-eastern province of
Sucumbios, in a jungle zone bordering with Colombia. Petroproduction operates 485 wells that produce 303,000 of oil a
day, almost 80 % of the 375,000 barrels a day of the national output.
Ecuador exports some 250,000 bpd, which finance 50 % of the government budget.
