Russia and China talk about Siberia-China pipeline

June 25, 1997 In a visit to Beijing of First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Boris Nemtsov had a working breakfast with Zhou Yongkang, President of the Chinese National Oil and Gas Corporation.
They discussed a plan to lay a gas pipeline connecting Siberia with the western and eastern areas of China, which is unprecedented by its scope in the history of bilateral business co-operation of the two countries. According to the estimates of specialists, the building of the gas pipeline will make it possible for China to import 25 billion cubic metres of gas a year. Another important topic for discussion was the joint development of gas fields on the territory of China. The implementation of the project will include Russia in the group of countries taking part in the development of China's energy resources.
