Korea's petchem products exports dropping

Jul 14, 1997 02:00 AM

June 23, 1997 In Korea, the exports of petrochemical products are on a downtrend so far this year, the Korea Petrochemical Industry Association disclosed. Exports of synthetic resins, raw materials for synthetic fibres and synthetic rubber in May totalled 314,000 tons, off 12 % from a month before. The slowdown was ascribed partly to the routine repair work of petrochemical firms and partly to sluggish orders coming from China and Southeast Asia.
The May exports of synthetic resins reached 285,800 tons, off 3.1 % from a month ago. During the month, exports of PVC came to 15,700 tons, off 21 % from a month before, those of hdPE were 64,300 tons, off 12 %, and those of PP were 90,000 tons, off 2 %.
A decrease of about 5 % was also seen in the May exports of ldPE, PS and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). The May exports of raw materials for synthetic fibres were 11,100 tons, only one-fourth of the April export level. The May exports of synthetic rubber stood at 17,900 tons, which almost remained unchanged from a month before.
