June 19, 1997 Vice-Premier Zou Jiahua inspected a construction site of the Shaanxi-Beijing natural gas pipeline project, calling on workers to do their utmost to ensure the quality and quick completion of the pipeline.
The 840-km line is designed to pipe natural gas from Northwest China's Shaanxi Province to Beijing. The project was started early last year and will be completed by the end of this month.
By the end of September, Beijing residents will have access to natural gas from the pipeline. And the capital city's air quality is expected to be improved to a great extent as a result of the line.
The vice-premier made detailed inquires about the project's progress, quality management, design plans and gas prices, saying he was pleased that the pipeline is of such outstanding quality.
Zou extended his regards to the construction workers and praised them for their industrious spirit, calling on construction units to make every effort to guarantee the quality, speed and efficiency of the project.
