India gets $ 820 mm for projects for energy-projects

June 17, 1997 India will get $ 820 million in loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) this year, of which 50 % has been earmarked for projects in western Gujarat state. "The projects which are being discussed between implementing agencies and include a 1,000 km liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) transmission pipeline between Northwest Gujarat and Delhi," ADB Indian resident representative Shigeko Asher was quoted The bank is willing to extend a $ 150 mm loan to the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) for the construction of the pipeline, which would reduce transportation costs considerably and be environmentally safe.ADB would also extend a $300 million loan for the gujarat power sector development project and facilitate co-financing of a similar amount by other international lenders, she added.
