Apr 29, 1999 02:00 AM

Chinese and California business and government officials will meet in the Los Angeles area May 19 and 20 to explore potential investment opportunities in the State and in China's Jiangsu Province, one of the largest, most economically developed areas in China.
Jiangsu Governor Chen Huanyou will lead what is considered the largest Chinese trade delegation to visit California. The group will include 13 Chinese mayors and more than 100 business leaders here to study competitive business techniques, seek venture partners and consider investment opportunities in California.
Sponsored by the USA-China Chamber of Commerce, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the California Chamber of Commerce and the World Trade Centre Association, the event will take place at the Universal Hilton Hotel.
"As representatives of one of China's most progressive provinces, the Jiangsu delegation is seeking opportunities to invest in California's Pacific Rim economy, as well as develop investment interest in the well-developed economy and markets of the Province," said Lily Wong, executive director of the USA-China Chamber of Commerce and managing director of the Western Region.
Gov. Chen Huanyou will participate in a Jiangsu-California leadership roundtable with 100 key local business leaders to discuss mutually beneficial opportunities between Jiangsu Province and California.

Following the trade forum and roundtable, a reception will take place, where Chinese and local business people will have an opportunity to informally discuss business possibilities.

Jiangsu Province, with a 1998 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $ 85 bn and a population of more than 70 mm, is one of China's most economically developed areas. It includes such cities as Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou and Wuxi.
Its resources include a variety of textiles, light industries, electronics, heavy machinery and petrochemicals.
