SOCAR proposes joint Azerbaijani-Turkmen company for Kyapaz deposit

Aug 25, 1999 02:00 AM

Ilham Aliyev, the first vice-president of SOCAR and son of Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev, has proposed founding a joint Azerbaijani-Turkmen company to resolve the issue of exploiting the Kyapaz deposit.
Aliyev said "I always proposed founding a joint Azerbaijani-Turkmen company which would choose an investor for the exploration of Kyapaz, so that this project's implementation would be equally favourable for both parties. If one approaches the settlement of this issue from the point of view of latitude and longitude, then nothing will be achieved." Turkmenistan has not yet responded to his proposal, according to Aliyev.
