Aug 09, 1999 02:00 AM

Gaspetro, Petrobras' gas subsidiary, aims to increase the Brazilian natural gas consumption to 80 mm cmpd until 2005. At present the national consumption of the product is estimated at 12 mm cmpd. The national production amounted to 29.679 mm cmpd last year.
Gaspetro will connect its coastal gas pipeline network (from Rio Grande do Sul to Ceara), and then expand it into the countryside of the country. According to Gaspetro, the new thermoelectric plants that will be built in the country - it will take part in some 20 projects - will consume 45 mm cm of natural gas.
That volume will be supplied by Petrobras, which will import 30 mm cmpd from Bolivia, 12 mm cm from Argentina and smaller amounts from other countries.
