EDC moves ahead offshore gas production project
The Ecuadorian oil company Petroecuador reports that the construction of an offshore platform to the exploitation of
gas in the Guayaquil Gulf is under way.
The facility will be operated by EDC in the Amistad field by April 2000, and is tied to a 64 km pipeline up to the
port terminal Puerto Bolivar, where Marathon Power is setting up a thermal power plant with capacity for 240 MW to
consume 43 mm cfpd of natural gas.
EDC won the area in a tender held by Petroecuador, that is focusing to increase production in its three petroleum
refineries La Libertad, Esmeraldas, and Amazonas.
