Saipem lifts & installs Thebaud platform

Aug 20, 1999 02:00 AM

The Sable Offshore Energy Project met another major milestone as the largest of the project's three natural gas processing platforms was successfully installed offshore.
The Thebaud Central Processing Platform was lifted and installed by the Saipem 7000, the world's largest semi-submersible heavy lift vessel. The Thebaud platform weighs more than 5,600 metric tonnes and stands almost 13 stories above the waterline.
The Saipem also successfully lifted and installed the Thebaud wellhead which weighs more than 1,500 metric tonnes.
The Thebaud Central Processing facility will process gas from its own wells and from the North Triumph and Venture fields which is transported to the Thebaud by subsea pipeline. When the natural gas reaches the Thebaud facility water is separated before the gas is sent through 197 km of 26" pipe to the gas plant at Goldboro, Guysborough County.

The Thebaud processing platform is located 10 km west of Sable Island and sits in 27.4 metres of water.
Sable Offshore Energy Inc. is owned by Mobil Canada (50.8 %), Shell Canada Limited (31.3 %), Imperial Oil Resources (9.0 %), Nova Scotia Resources (8.4 %), and Mosbacher Operating Limited (0.5 %).
