During a recent visit to New Delhi, Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev discussed prospects for co-operation with India in the oil and gas sector.
Few details on the discussions were available, but Russian sources said that Tokayev had reached agreement with India's caretaker Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on studying the possibilities for joint work.
Other sources noted that India's state oil company, ONGC-Videsh, has been negotiating with the Kazakh government for rights to oil and gas deposits on the Caspian Sea shelf and in other areas.
