China's Northwest provinces join hands to tap natural gas resources

Aug 18, 1999 02:00 AM

Northwest China's Qinghai and Gansu provinces have joined hands in making full use of Qinghai's rich natural gas.
The two provinces plan to build a pipeline system to convey rich natural gas from Qaidam Basin, known as a treasure bowl -- a place rich in natural resources in north Qinghai, to Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, and Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province by the year 2002.
The natural gas pipeline system is scheduled to run from the Sebei Natural Gas Field in Qaidam to Xining and Lanzhou with an annual gas-conveying capacity of 3 bn to 5 bn cm. The project has recently been approved by the China National Petroleum Corporation.
