Vyakhirev wants gas exporters to unite and establish independent gas prices

Oct 12, 1999 02:00 AM

The top manager of Gazprom, Rem Vyakhirev, confirmed he is for the creation of an organisation that will unite natural gas exporting countries and for establishing gas prices without linkage to those of oil. Vyakhirev came up with this proposal first time at a conference of European gas industry captains on October 8.
North Ossetian President Alexander Dzasokhov said that in case of the emergence of an organisation of gas exporters co-ordination of pricing would be the first step, the more so, since Russia is one of the main exporters of gas. The North Ossetian president said Russia has the right to insist that all new technologies and know-hows in gas exploration and production should be made available to all participants in a future organisation of gas exporters.
